The West Front is to Hooke's original design. The Great Hall in the centre was originally conceived on a very grand scale, but Conway presumably could not afford it or thought it inappropriate, so the size was reduced to 'a good proportion', in Hooke's words. Although Hooke designed the original gardens, the present ones were re-laid  in the late 19th century.
